Les Jinks
Once more we have to report with great sadness the passing of another Derbyshire stalwart. Leslie Brian Jinks made 134 appearances for the Derbyshire County side, having previously played for Leicestershire. In his years with Derbyshire he represented the county on no less than 6 separate occasions at the National Championships. His finest year was probably 2014 when, with Dave Brennan, he won the National Senior Pairs competition at Leamington.
The funeral arrangements for Les are:- Date - December 30th. 2024 at 1.00 p.m. at the Gilroes Crematorium East Chapel, Groby Road, Leicester, LE3 9QG. After the ceremony there will be a wake to raise a glass to Les at thegrosvenorsyston.co.uk. All are welcome. Donations in his memory to Loros Hospice.

Bob Prati
It is with great sadness that we have heard of the passing of Bob Prati on the weekend of 12th. October. Bob was a great stalwart of Bowls Derbyshire and had acted in many roles for the county from President of the Association, secretary and of course a very well respected bowler.
It was a pleasure to present Bob with his 300th. cap for the county - an achievement and honour that only a handful of bowlers manage.
He was not in the best of health during the season and a diagnosis of serious cancer was confirmed shortly before his passing. We send our condolences to Pam and she has asked for no phone contacts at the moment. Bob's funeral will take place on Monday November 4th. at 10.00 a.m. at St Thomas' Roman Catholic Church, Nottingham Road, Ilkeston. No flowers please but donations may be made to Marie Curie and/or Treetops Hospice.

Norma Hazzledine - Norma's funeral was held on September 23rd. @ Bramcote Crematorium
It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Norma Hazzledine. A detailed obituary can be found on the Bowls England website but it is locally in Derbyshire we remember her. She was totally committed to the County, helping in the formation of the Derbyshire Women's Bowling Association and the development of the competition structure in the county for women. She was honoured by the late Queen for her services to bowls and at a lunch, organized by the County Ladies, she passed on many light-hearted anecdotes from her wide ranging bowls experiences.
She herself was an International bowler but she also encouraged other county ladies to aim high and there were others who represented the country thanks to Norma. A staunch supporter of club bowls she was often heard at Erewash Indoor club with her well remembered 'hard luck dear, that was unlucky'. Whether she meant it all the time is unclear. As a player, administrator, coach and team manager she will be missed. Thankyou Norma for your contribution to Derbyshire Bowls.
Men's Triples Success at Leamington - Photo of the Winners at the Champions Dinner in Gallery
It was perhaps fitting that on the day we learnt of Norma's passing the county had the honour of the Men's Triples winning the competition in the final versus Heaton Hall, Lancashire. Josh Grant, Dan Thornhill and skip Philip Broughton won the final 19-14, going one better than their runners up trophy of two years ago. Phil had previously acquitted himself well in the Four Wood Singles, losing only to the eventual winner - Jamie Walker. In the Trips they crossed swords again and Phil had his revenge by one shot on the way to the final. The end of the match became quite tense and Heaton Hall closed the gap to four shots with an end to play. However the Derbyshire three claimed one more shot on the eighteenth end to win by a margin of five. Well done to all three on their success which will mean that they will go forward to the British Isles championships to represent England.
